Cleaning Printer Cartridges

Although the idea of cleaning a printer ink refill may seem a little absurd, it is actually a very practical task, because it allows the refill to perform optimally. To accomplish this task, some companies suggest that the cartridge should be allowed to sit in water. In theory, this allows the jets to clear of any excess ink. However, in practice, this method is not very effective due to the design of the refill. The contact points, or foil overlay, are not located within the cartridge, but attached to the outside of the cartridge. Another potential issue is that water can seep into the ink cartridge due to the pressure that is created by the water. If you need to clean a cartridge, it is much more effective to use a damp paper towel or coffee filter to gently brush away any dried ink that can cause a clog.
